Office of Multicultural Services at Franklin College

The Office of Multicultural Services (OMS) at Franklin College seeks to promote diversity in the student body. There are several clubs under this department, but the International Club particularly looks to encourage appreciation of the cultures of other nations. The OMS plans and promotes programs and events such as a presentation on the country of Ghana. Read more
One Here... One There

One Here... One There is an Indiana University initiative established in the spring of 2009. The program is designed to provide I.U. Bloomington students and other students nationwide with the opportunity to include a donation with their tuition payment. The money is meant to reduce education costs for less privileged students in sub-Saharan Africa. Their strategy is to ask for a donation of $10 each semester when students are paying for tuition, therefore creating a consistent mean of funds generation for a vital project. Read more
Pan African Student Union

The Pan African Student Union (PASU) is a student organization at Indiana University- South Bend. Clement Odemba, a Tanzanian student, is the group's Vice-President. The mission of PASU involves providing support for African students, celebrating African culture, and raising awareness of Africa. Read more
Purdue Black Cultural Center

Purdue University-Various Sorghum Development Projects

Purdue University has developed a type of sorghum that is resistant to a weed that is responsible for widespread crop failure. Sorghum is a staple food for millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa. The program has distributed the sorghum seeds to a large number of farmers. A similar initiative engineered an easy-to-digest sorghum for both people and animals. Read more
Purdue University's Power Pool Development Group (PPDG)

Working alongside USAID, the Power Pool Development Group (PPDG) and the South African Power Pool (SAPP) have partnered to address the lack of sustainable electricity in developing countries. After a successful partnership with SAPP, PPDG has developed other projects in Central and West Africa to improve regional electrical capabilities crucial to infrastructure development. Read more
Riley International Project-IusM

Riley Children's Hospital and the Indiana University School of Medicine have partnered together to provide general and specialized healthcare to children in countries that may lack adequate medical capabilities. This project is an umbrella initiative that supports several other projects including the Calnali Health Education Outreach Program, Center for International Adoption and Geographic Medicine, Educational Programs to Improve Global Health, International Programs Pediatric Pulmonology, IU-Kenya Partnership, Global Network for Women's and Children's Health Research, Riley Mother and Baby Hospital, and the Merck Vaccine Network-Africa. SIFE in Africa

Anderson University's SIFE, or Students in Free Enterprise, is currently working with Mulunda Miaka Orphanage in Zambia. They are developing a comprehensive plan for the orphanage to become self-sufficient. Read more
Social Action Project

Social Action Project originated at Michigan State University in 1985, but it migrated to Indiana University South Bend in 1990 under the auspices of the psychology department. Their goal is to conduct research on problems faced by real people with the help of efficacy theory to create a response or suitable course of action to community needs. Residents of the community and the project team then implement the solution. Their initiatives have been employed in the countries of Nigeria and South Africa. Read more
